As with most music reviews, I like to mix things up a bit. Although my taste is sometimes obvious in my music reviews I think its good to expand a little and give you, the reader, a diverse section. In my quest for diversity I have found a little treasure in the man known as Josh Garrels. Little is really known about this mysterious man, although he is open about denying the world and losing your soul in effort to advance your music. This once hippie living (and maybe still a little now) has lived many different places and done many things. He started his own record label, Small Voice Records, and although humble in the beginning has produced a wildly acclaimed album, “Jacaranda.” Prior to the album “Jacaranda,” Garrels had put out 3 albums, and just recently in 2009 came out with his latest project. For those who are unfamiliar with Josh Garrels, “Jacaranda” is where you want to start. This album is sure to be different than anything else you currently have—it’s like a breath of fresh air! Songs like “Don’t wait for me” and “Never have I found” have both found secular success, while sticking to his overt Christian message. Maybe folk music isn’t your taste, but I encourage you to give this guy a listen-you won’t be disappointed! But hey, don’t take my word for it…listen for yourself!!
